Public Works Projects Often Suffer Consequences

Public Works projects often run into budget problems. The Big Dig in Boston might be the most notorious example, as the initial estimate of cost and completion date was off by hundreds of millions of dollars and years and years of time. There are many reasons why these projects consistently overrun initial budgets, from underestimating the difficulty of the terrain to political considerations.
A light rail project in Fresno, California is only the most recent example. The project is already millions over budget, which is mostly a matter for local politicians and contractors to work out. But a recent accident there that left five workers injured is drawing national attention to what happens when money starts to run short.
A tower collapsed on November 18th, 2017, leading to five injuries and two hospitalizations. The tower was supposed to support part of a bridge, but the rebar failed under limited stress. This should never happen. Either there was a fault in the design of the project, or the rebar itself was improperly manufactured. Using cheaper materials might be used to try to shave some of the cost off the project. But shoddy materials simply put people at risk, either the workers themselves dealing with tower collapses or the general public once the light rail is operational.
A full investigation is being conducted by authorities, and it is of prime importance that the cause of the accident be determined. Workers should never be put at risk because low-quality materials are being used, and if this was the case, whoever sourced those materials must be held accountable.
If you or someone you love has been injured in an on-the-job accident, ensuring a full investigation takes place can be difficult. The company has every reason to want to limit people looking into any corners that were being cut. Please, consult with an experienced attorney to make sure you get the answers to which you are entitled.
