No End in Sight for Airbag Recalls

The car manufacturers no longer even bother to claim that the recall is over. Instead, as another 1.3 million vehicles are recalled due to potentially faulty airbags, Toyota simply makes an announcement and attempts to move on. This just a few days after Ford announced a similarly large scale recall.
The breadth of the recall is staggering, with makes and models as far back as 2001 Honda Accords posing a risk of the airbag exploding. Over 50 million vehicles have already been recalled due to faulty Takata airbags, and the number just keeps growing. It would be reasonable to think manufacturers would be aware of what makes and models utilized these dangerous devices, but even as years pass more and more recalls continue to be announced.
Because of this fact, it is likely there are still millions of cars on the road suffering from this defect, and millions of drivers and passengers still at risk. In fact, the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) estimates another 10-15 million unsafe vehicles may still be on the road, with the earliest date for the recall to be conclude set as December of 2019.
Determining whether or not your vehicle is currently under a recall is easy, as entering the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) of the car into the NHTSA website will yield that information. But guessing whether or not your current car might face a future recall can be practically impossible, as information on components used in the manufacture of any given vehicle can be diffcicult.
If you or someone you love has suffered due to a defective airbag, the slow crawl of the recall must be frustrating, particularly if your accident occurred after the initial wave of vehicles was announced. Please consult with an experienced attorney about your case, and hold the manufacturers of these vehicles responsible for their unsafe products.
