Pedestrians Injured in Multiple Vehicle Crash Near Brooklyn College

October 28, 2019 | Finz & Finz, P.C.

WNBC-TV reported on October 25, 2019, that five people were injured in a multiple-vehicle accident near Brooklyn College, and three of the victims were pedestrians. Three of the injuries were classified as minor and two were serious but not life-threatening, but it was not clear how many of the seriously injured were pedestrians.

WNBC reported that all five of the injured parties were transported to King’s County Hospital. The exact number of vehicles involved in the crash was also unclear at the time of the report.

According to WNBC, the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) said a call came in about 11:38 a.m. reporting an incident at Bedford Avenue and Campus Road near the Brooklyn College campus. The intersection is also located near Midwood High School.

WNBC reported that video from the scene showed at least three ambulances at the scene as well as a silver vehicle crashed into a light post. There was also debris on streets and the sidewalk, but the surrounding area was taped off.

The New York Times reported on January 8, 2018, that the 101 pedestrian fatalities recorded in 2017 were the lowest number since the city began recording such deaths in 1910, but Streetsblog NYC reported on January 1, 2019, that there were unofficially 114 pedestrian fatalities in 2018. On October 22, 2019, Car and Driver reported that recently released National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) data showed that the 6,283 pedestrian deaths in 2018 was a 3 percent increase from 2017 even though the number of total motor vehicle deaths declined.

The Brooklyn College crash is just another frightening reminder of how easily pedestrians can find themselves involved in an accident involving automobiles in New York City. Most drivers would prefer to think that they operate safely at all times, but pedestrians are too often overlooked or ignored by motorists who may be focusing on other vehicles or other distractions instead.

All of the people involved in the Brooklyn College incident also appear to have taken the most important step after any pedestrian accident, which is seeking medical attention. If you ever happen to be involved in any kind of pedestrian accident, you always want to be sure that you go to a hospital to have your condition evaluated, even if you do not think you are seriously hurt.

Your next step should be to quickly contact an experienced personal injury lawyer for assistance with your legal claim. Make sure you contact Finz & Finz, P.C. at 1-855-TOP-FIRM to speak with one of our pedestrian injury lawyers.
