CONEY ISLAND, BROOKLYN – New York City police are investigating a hit-and-run incident in Brooklyn on Friday night that left a woman dead and a young man injured, according to a report by WABC.

Police responded to the accident scene in the area of West 24th Street and Mermaid Avenue in the Coney Island section of the borough.

An investigation determined that two pedestrians were hit by a red pickup truck shortly before 9 p.m. as they were walking across West 24th Street.

One of the victims was pronounced dead after being rushed to Coney Island Hospital.  She was identified as 41-year-old Tamika Richards of Brooklyn.  The other pedestrian, an 18-year-old man, was transported to NYU Langone Hospital Brooklyn where he was listed in stable condition.  The man’s name was not released.

Police said the driver of the pickup truck fled the scene without stopping to help, and was last seen heading west on Mermaid Avenue.  A search continues for the driver and the vehicle involved.
