ISLANDIA, LONG ISLAND – A car accident on Long Island early Monday morning left one person dead and another injured, according to a report by the Daily Voice.

The crash took place between exit 58 and exit 59 along the Long Island Expressway in Islandia, Suffolk County.

Suffolk County Police said a woman was driving a 2010 Ford Edge eastbound on the LIE at about 2:40 a.m. when the vehicle went off the roadway.  The Edge then collided with the center median, spun around and hit the right guardrail of the highway.

The driver, identified as 26-year-old Erika Figueroa of Medford, was pronounced dead after being taken to Stony Brook University Hospital.  Figueroa’s boyfriend, 34-year-old Juan Reyes of Medford, was riding in the front passenger seat and was taken to the same hospital with serious injuries.

Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives are investigating the wreck.  The vehicle was impounded for a safety check as part of that investigation.

Anyone with further information was asked to contact the Fourth Squad.
