Woman hit and killed by pickup truck while pushing stroller in Brooklyn

BATH BEACH, BROOKLYN – Police said a woman died after being hit by a vehicle on a street in Brooklyn on Tuesday afternoon.

According to a report by WABC, the incident took place at the intersection of 25th Avenue and Bath Avenue in the Bath Beach section of the borough.

A woman was pushing a stroller in the crosswalk with her 2-year-old granddaughter inside when they were by a 2022 Dodge Ram pickup truck that was making a left turn on Bath Avenue shortly after 1 p.m.

The woman was pronounced dead after being taken to Lutheran Medical Center.  She was identified as 66-year-old Xia Ying Chen.  The child sustained minor injuries and was transported to Maimonides Hospital.

The driver of the pickup truck, 56-year-old Faheem Shabazz, has been charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian.  Police said he remained at the scene.  Shabazz was believed to be an MTA employee, according to a Daily News report.

The NYPD is continuing its investigation into the cause of the accident.
