WEST BABYLON, LONG ISLAND – Police said a driver was arrested in connection with a crash on Long Island Sunday evening that killed a motorcycle rider, the Suffolk Daily Voice reports.

The accident occurred in the vicinity of Straight Path and 13th Street in West Babylon.

According to investigators, the driver of a northbound 2019 Nissan Sentra was trying to turn right from Straight Path onto 13th Street at about 6:30 p.m.  As multiple motorcycles rode past on her left side, the driver hit a 2006 Yamaha motorcycle riding on the road’s right shoulder.

Both the Nissan and the Yamaha then hit a 2008 Dodge Avenger motorcycle that had stopped at a stop sign on 13th Street.  The Nissan struck a curb and went into a parking lot.

The driver of the Avenger was pronounced dead after being taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip.  He was identified as 30-year-old Kevin Wellington of Amityville.  The other motorcyclists left the scene, police said.

The Nissan driver, identified as 31-year-old Cindi Pereira of Brentwood, was charged with driving while intoxicated and was due to be arraigned at First District Court.
