Teenage moped rider dies following collision with vehicle in Manhattan

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, MANHATTAN – A collision between a moped and a vehicle in Upper Manhattan on Thursday afternoon claimed the life of a teenage boy, according to a report in the New York Post.

The incident took place in the Washington Heights area, on West 185th Street near St. Nicholas Avenue.

According to investigators, a 15-year-old boy was riding a moped shortly before 1:30 p.m. when he collided with a Jeep that was traveling eastbound on West 185th Street.  The teen was thrown from the moped to the pavement.

Police and EMS crews responded to the scene and found the moped rider unconscious.  He was pronounced dead after being transported to Harlem Hospital.

The driver of the Jeep remained at the scene afterwards and no criminality was suspected.

The NYPD Highway Collision Investigation Squad is continuing to investigate the cause of the accident.
