JAMAICA, QUEENS – An accident in Queens on Monday night led to the death of a teenage scooter rider, according to the Daily News.

The victim was identified as 18-year-old Saad Mohammed of Howard Beach, Queens.  Police said the crash occurred at the intersection of 168th Street and 89th Avenue in Jamaica.

An investigation determined that Mohammed was riding west on 89th Avenue on an electric NIU standup Kick Scooter at about 9:30 p.m.  Video from the area showed that he went through a red light at the intersection and entered the path of a Q20 MTA bus that was going north on 168th Street.  The vehicles collided and Mohammed ended up under the front wheels of the bus.

He was transported by paramedics to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.  The 33-year-old bus driver, who was not injured, remained at the scene.  No passengers were on board the bus at the time of the collision.

The NYPD is continuing to investigate the cause of the incident.
