Passenger killed when vehicle crashes into utility pole on Long Island

GREAT RIVER, LONG ISLAND – Authorities said one person was killed and another was critically injured when their vehicle was involved in a crash on Long Island early Friday morning.

According to a report by Long Island.com, the incident took place on Great River Road in the hamlet of Great River.

Suffolk County Police said the driver of a 1998 Jeep was going south on Green River Road near Montauk Highway when the vehicle collided with a utility pole.  The two occupants of the Jeep were ejected from the vehicle.

A woman riding as a passenger in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.  She was identified as 25-year-old NeriBeth Medina-Mas of Brentwood.

The driver was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore, where he was listed in critical but stable condition.  Police said he was a 37-year-old man from Bay Shore.

Police are investigating the wreck, and asked anyone with further information to contact detectives with the Third Squad.
