News: 1 dead, 3 injured after vehicles collide near Wyandanch intersection

WYANDANCH, LONG ISLAND – Suffolk County Police were called to the scene of a fatal collision in Wyandanch early Sunday morning, North Babylon Patch reports.

According to investigators, a man was driving a 2016 Honda CRV westbound on Long Island Avenue when the incident took place at about 12:30 a.m.  The Honda collided with a 2021 Toyota Camry that was heading east.

A passenger in the Honda, 62-year-old Jose Sanchez Benitez of Wyandanch, was pronounced dead after being taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore.  The driver of the vehicle, Benitez’s 44-year-old brother, sustained injuries that were not life-threatening and was taken to the same hospital

The driver of the Toyota was seriously injured and transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip. A passenger in the Toyota suffered injuries that were not life-threatening and was taken to South Shore University Hospital.

The vehicles were impounded for safety checks as Suffolk County Police detectives continue their investigation into the wreck.
