MASSAPEQUA, LONG ISLAND – Police said a multi-vehicle crash on Long Island Sunday night left three people dead, according to WNYW.
The accident took place at about 7:20 p.m. in the area of Sunrise Highway and Unqua Road near Sunrise Mall in Massapequa.
An initial investigation by the Nassau County Police Department indicated that a driver was headed west on Sunrise Highway at a high rate of speed when the vehicle collided with three other vehicles across from the shopping center.
Three people were pronounced dead at the scene, while five others were taken to area hospitals. Two of the injured victims were listed in critical condition. Two were listed in stable condition, while the fifth was treated and released. The identities of the victims were not immediately released.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the wreck.
