HAUPPAGUE, LONG ISLAND – One person was killed in a multi-vehicle collision involving a garbage truck on Long Island last week.

According to WNBC, the incident happened July 3 along Express Drive South, a Long Island Expressway service road just east of Exit 57 in Hauppauge.

Suffolk County Police said the garbage truck was eastbound and approaching Motor Parkway at about 8:52 a.m., when it slammed into a school bus and three other vehicles that were stopped at a red light.

A 25-year-old man driving of one of the vehicles that was hit suffered fatal injuries.  His identity was not immediately released.  Two other people were injured and taken to an area hospital.  No one on the school bus was hurt.

The garbage truck was the property of the New York City Sanitation Department, but it was not yet clear where it was headed.

Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives are continuing to investigate the crash.
