Man charged in car crash that killed 4 family members on Sunrise Highway

MASSAPEQUA, LONG ISLAND – A man has been arrested and charged in connection with a crash on Long Island earlier this month that left four people dead, according to WCBS.

Nassau County Police identified the suspect as 32-year-old Michael Deangelo of Lindenhurst.  The accident occurred Aug. 6 in front of a strip mall on Sunrise Highway in Massapequa shortly before 7:30 p.m.

Investigators said Deangelo was driving at over 100 miles an hour when he slammed into an SUV that was stopped in the center lane at a red light.

The other driver, 60-year-old Patrice Huntley of Queens, along with his 12-year-old daughter and 11-year-old son, all died at the scene.  Huntley’s 6-year-old granddaughter of her injuries on Saturday.  His 18-year-old daughter was listed in critical condition.

According to prosecutors, Deangelo was under the influence of cocaine and fentanyl at the time of the accident.  He now faces multiple charges, including vehicular homicide, manslaughter, DWI, and reckless driving.

DeAngelo pleaded not guilty with bail set at $500,000.  He is due back in court Aug. 15.
