BRONX, NY – Police said one person was killed and another injured when a fleeing driver caused an accident in the Bronx Wednesday night, the New York Post reports.

The incident began when police tried to pull over the driver of a Honda CR-V on Riverside Drive in Upper Manhattan at about 10:17 p.m.

The driver did not stop and fled away from the scene, and police then lost track of the vehicle.

The Honda eventually reached the area of Drake Street and Spofford Avenue in the Hunts Point section of the Bronx, where it crashed into a parked and unoccupied tractor-trailer at about 11:15 p.m.

Two passengers in the car were rushed to area hospitals.  One of them, identified as 31-year-old Jose Matos of the Bronx, was pronounced dead at Jacobi Hospital.  The other passenger, a 29-year-old man, was listed in critical condition at Lincoln Medical Center.

The NYPD said the driver of the Honda fled the scene and was still being sought.
