Driver sought in Long Island hit-and-run that injured pedestrian

BELLMORE, LONG ISLAND – Police on Long Island are attempting to track down the driver who struck and injured a pedestrian over the weekend, according to a report by LongIsland.com.

The incident took place Sunday morning on Sunrise Highway near the intersection with Saint Marks Avenue in the town of Bellmore in Nassau County.

Nassau County Police said a 21-year-old man was trying to walk across Sunrise Highway southbound at 1:39 a.m. when he was hit by a dark-colored pickup truck going east.

The victim was taken by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment after suffering head, leg and wrist injuries.  He was listed in stable condition.

Investigators said the driver of the pickup truck did not stop to help after the crash and kept going eastbound.  The vehicle and driver are now being sought as the investigation continues.
