Bicycle rider hospitalized after being struck by hit-and-run driver in Selden

SELDEN, LONG ISLAND – Police on Long Island are investigating a hit-and-run incident that injured the rider of an electric bicycle, according to a report by Newsday.

The crash took place Wednesday night along Dare Road in the area of 13th Street in Selden shortly before 10 p.m.

Suffolk County police said the bike rider was going south on Dare Road when he was hit by a vehicle that was headed in the same direction. The rider, identified as 18-year-old Isaac Ramirez of Selden, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital to be treated for serious injuries.

The driver of the vehicle left the scene without stopping to help and kept on going south on Dare Road, investigators said.

A search is now underway for the driver. No description was immediately available for the vehicle involved. Anyone with further information about the incident was asked to call Crime Stoppers.
