NEW CASTLE, NY – At least nine people were injured when a car slammed into a school bus in Westchester County Wednesday afternoon, reports WNBC.

The accident happened in the town of New Castle shortly after 2 p.m.  According to police, a 16-year-old boy was driving a Honda Accord when he lost control of the vehicle while rounding a curve on Lake Road near Crow Hill Road.

The car drifted into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on into a school bus from the Yorktown Central School District.  The teenage driver of the Accord, a Bedford Hills resident, and his three passengers all suffered life-threatening injuries and were transported to Westchester Medical Center.

At least five people on board the bus were also hospitalized but were expected to recover.

Authorities said the driver of the Accord did not have a driver’s license.

Lake Road was shut down for hours while the wreckage was being cleared before reopening later in the evening.  The investigation into the accident remains ongoing.
