6 hospitalized following multi-vehicle collision in North Bellmore

NORTH BELLMORE, LONG ISLAND – A multi-vehicle accident on Long Island Thursday morning sent six people to the hospital, according to a report by WNBC.

The accident happened in the vicinity of Jerusalem Avenue and Newbridge Road in the town of North Bellmore in Nassau County.

According to Nassau County police, the driver of a Walmart tractor-trailer hit a school bus at about 7 a.m. and lost control of the vehicle.  The truck then went on to sideswipe multiple passenger vehicles and flipped onto its side in a supermarket parking lot.

Two children in the passenger vehicles and four adults were injured and taken to the hospital, but none of the injuries were life-threatening.  No children were on board the school bus at the time, police said.

It several hours for the wreckage to be cleared away, and Newbridge Road was closed from Jerusalem Avenue to Waring Street.   Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the incident.
