HOLTSVILLE, LONG ISLAND – Two men died after their vehicles were involved in a collision on the Long Island Expressway in Suffolk County early Tuesday morning, according to WABC.

The accident happened near exit 61 of the LIE in Holtsville near the border with Farmingdale.  Suffolk County Police said the driver of a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling in the wrong direction in the middle lane at about 12:45 a.m. and crashed head-on into a westbound 2005 Acura.

The driver of the Silverado, 61-year-old Thomas Raimondo of Holbrook, and the driver of the Acura, 32-year-old Jose Ferreira of West Babylon, were both pronounced dead at the scene.

The drivers were the only occupants of the two vehicles and no other injuries were reported.

All westbound lanes of the LIE and the eastbound HOV lane between exits 63 and 62 were closed for hours for the crash response and investigation.

Police believe Raimondo entered the LIE at Exit 59 going west in the eastbound lanes.
