WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, MANHATTAN – A stolen vehicle was involved in a deadly collision in Manhattan on Monday morning, reports the New York Post.

Police responded to the scene at the corner of West 179th Street and Audobon Avenue in the Washington Heights section.

According to investigators, the driver of a northbound Hyundai Elantra was going at high speed on Audobon Avenue when the accident happened at about 7 a.m.  The Elantra, reportedly stolen last month, collided with a Jeep going west on West 179th Street and also struck parked cars.

The impact caused the Hyundai with five occupants to flip onto its side.  Two people inside the vehicle were pronounced dead after being taken to New York Presbyterian-Columbia Hospital.  A third passenger was listed in critical condition at the same hospital, while the two others were  transported to Harlem Hospital.  One was in critical condition and the other was in stable condition.  The 53-year-old driver of the Jeep sustained minor injuries.

Authorities blocked off Audobon Avenue between West 179th and West 180th Streets while the wreckage was being cleared.
