17-year-old girl killed when motorcycle crashes on Queens highway

WHITESTONE, QUEENS – New York City police said a motorcycle accident in Whitestone, Queens early Monday morning left a passenger dead and the driver injured.

According to a report by amNewYork, the crash happened at the interchange of the Cross Island Parkway and Whitestone Expressway just after midnight.  Police said a 29-year-old man was operating a 2002 Honda motorcycle at a high rate of speed on the northbound Cross Island Parkway.  As he tried to exit onto the southbound Whitestone Expressway, the rider lost control of the bike while trying to go around a curve.

The motorcycle hit a curb and fell onto its side.  A 17-year-old girl who was the passenger was thrown from the bike and was pronounced dead at the scene.  The victim was a resident of Bellerose, Long Island.

The operator of the motorcycle was listed in stable condition after being transported to New York Presbyterian Queens Hospital in Flushing.

The NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad is investigating the accident.
