DOUGLASTON, QUEENS – Police and first responders were called to the scene of a major pileup on the Long Island Expressway in Queens on Saturday morning, according to an amNewYork report.

The multi-vehicle accident took place in the eastbound lanes of the expressway at exit 32 near Little Neck Parkway in the Douglaston section.

Authorities arriving sometime after 6:17 a.m. found that at least six cars and one tractor-trailer had been involved in the wreck.  13 people were removed from the scene and transported to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Hospital and North Shore University Hospital.  None of the injuries were believed to be life-threatening.

The crash led to the closure of the eastbound lanes of the LIE at Marathon Parkway, causing extensive traffic backups through the area.  All lanes had reopened later in the day.

No details were immediately released on the circumstances that led to the incident, which remains under investigation by the NYPD.
