1 dead, 1 injured in crash involving tractor-trailer on Cross Bronx Expressway

BRONX, NEW YORK – One person was killed and another was injured in a collision in the Bronx early Wednesday morning, according to a report by the Daily News.

The accident took place along the Cross Bronx Expressway at about 1:45 a.m.  The NYPD said the driver of a BMW was trying to go around a tractor-trailer in the center lane of the expressway near Nelson Avenue.

The BMW driver lost control of the car, and the passenger side collided with the driver’s side of the tractor-trailer.  A passenger in the BMW was pronounced dead at the scene.  The victim’s identity was not immediately released.

The driver of the BMW, age 19, was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital with minor injuries.  The driver of the truck was not injured and stayed at the scene.

Police are investigating the wreck and are trying to determine whether excessive speed was a contributing factor.

The incident shut down the westbound lanes of the Cross Bronx Expressway, causing traffic delays for drivers on Wednesday morning.
