NYACK, NEW YORK – New York State Police said a van driver was killed in a collision in Rockland County on Friday morning.

In a news release, State Police said they were called to the scene on Interstate 87 northbound in Nyack between exit 11 and exit 12 at about 7 am.

The investigation indicated that a New York State Thruway Wrecker was at that location providing traffic control for a vehicle that was disabled on the left shoulder and partially in the left lane.  As the disabled vehicle was being loaded, the Wrecker was struck from behind by a 2017 Ram ProMaster cargo van traveling in the left lane at a high rate of speed.

The driver of the cargo van was pronounced dead after being taken to Nyack Hospital.  The victim was identified as 60-year-old Arnold Sanchez from the Bronx.   No one was in the Wrecker at the time, as the driver was assisting with the disabled vehicle.

Troopers and other teams of investigators from the State Police were at the scene along with New York State Thruway Traffic Safety.  An investigation is continuing into the cause of the wreck.
