ASTORIA, QUEENS – New York City police said they are trying to track down the driver who was responsible for a fatal collision with a pedestrian in Queens last week.

According to an Astoria Post report, NYPD officers were called to the scene early Friday morning following a 911 call regarding the incident at the intersection of Astoria Boulevard and Steinway Street in Astoria.

An initial investigation determined that a pedestrian had been struck by a man driving a BMW that was going east on Astoria Boulevard South at about 4 a.m.  The victim was found unconscious in the roadway by police and paramedics.  He was pronounced dead after being taken to Elmhurst Hospital.  The victim’s identity was not immediately released.

Police said the driver of the BMW fled the scene of the crash on foot and was last seen running south on Steinway Street.

The NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad is continuing to investigate the incident.
