MELVILLE, LI – An accident on a Long Island highway Sunday evening claimed the life of a motorist, according to a report by Newsday.
Suffolk County police said the victim was a man who was driving a 2018 F-150 pickup truck westbound on the Long Island Expressway at about 7 p.m. and pulled off to the side of the road just west of exit 50 in Melville.
Investigators determined that the man got out of the truck and walked into the middle lane of the LIE. He was struck there by a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu and then was hit again by a 2007 Hummer. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity was not immediately released.
The drivers of the Malibu and the Hummer were not injured in the incident. No charges have been filed in the case.
The three vehicles involved were impounded for safety checks as part of the police investigation. Anyone with further information on the crash was asked to contact Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives.
