65-year-old bicyclist killed in Long Island hit-and-run incident

CENTRAL ISLIP, LONG ISLAND – Police on Long Island are investigating a fatal hit-and-run incident that took place on Monday morning, according to a report by WPIX.

Officers were called to the scene in the area of East Suffolk Avenue and Lowell Avenue in Central Islip after the crash happened at about 6:30 a.m.

Investigators said a bicycle rider was struck by two vehicles at that location, a white sedan and a dark-colored small SUV.  The drivers of both vehicles left the scene without stopping to help, according to police, and headed eastbound on East Suffolk Avenue.

The bicyclist was pronounced dead after being taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore.  He was identified as 65-year-old Felix Cesi Oliva Cruz of Bay Shore.

A search is now underway for both of the drivers involved in the accident.

Anyone with further information on the hit-and-run was asked to contact Suffolk County police or Crime Stoppers.
