WEST BABYLON, LONG ISLAND – Police said four people were injured when the driver of a stolen car crashed into a Suffolk County home Friday morning, WCBS reports.
The incident began shortly before 3 a.m. when police officers tried to pull over the vehicle after seeing it speeding on Route 109 near Feustal Street.
The 18-year-old driver fled the attempted traffic stop and took off at high speed. According to investigators, the driver went through red lights and went into oncoming traffic before losing control of the vehicle, which slammed into a home on Hamlin Avenue in West Babylon.
The driver was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. Three passengers in the car suffered injuries that were not life-threatening – an 18-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy, both from Bay Shore, and a 15-year-old boy from Islip. No one was in the home at the time of the crash and no other injuries were reported.
The driver is facing numerous charges, including reckless endangerment, unlawful fleeing a police officer and criminal possession of stolen property. Police did not identify the suspect, who was reported to be homeless.
