STATEN ISLAND, NY – A car accident on the Staten Island Expressway late Sunday night left two women dead, reports the Staten Island Advance.

Police were called to the scene on the Brooklyn-bound side of the expressway near Hanover Avenue after being notified of the incident at about 11 p.m.

An investigation determined that the driver of a 2023 Chevy Corvette convertible was headed east when she lost control of the vehicle and hit a guardrail near the exit lane for Hylan Boulevard/Clove Road.

The Corvette overturned onto the expressway’s main roadway and hit a 2018 Ford F-150 pickup truck. The Corvette kept going along multiple lanes of traffic before catching fire and ending up in the HOV lane.

The driver, 22-year-old Jianna Pischetola of Midland Beach, Staten Island, and her passenger, 22-year-old Gabriella Shammas of Dyker Heights, Brooklyn, were both pronounced dead at the scene.

The three occupants of the pickup, two 49-year-olds and a 15-year-old girl, were not injured.

The NYPD is continuing its investigation into the wreck.
