Failure to Diagnose Scoliosis: A Plank to Build On

divider

A study performed at the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, and published in a recent issue of Global Advances in Health and Medicine City, offers exciting news for people suffering from Scoliosis. Scoliosis is a curvature of the spine that affects millions of people in the United States. This affliction is often painful and can be severely debilitating.

This recent study identifies a new treatment for the condition that would be both effective and cost effective. The study identifies a very old treatment for the condition, as it recommends a classic Yoga pose to treat the condition. This pose, the Side Plank, reduced spinal curvature by as much as fifty percent in those who performed it every day.

There is cause to celebrate whenever an inexpensive, effective treatment can be found for any condition. There is particularly good reason to celebrate when the condition being treated affects so many people, as many as six million according to some estimates. This means fewer Americans have the potential to suffer:

  • diminished respiratory function
  • diminished ability to participate in sports and other activities
  • pain, ranging from moderate to severe
  • body image issues associated with the physical presentation of Scoliosis
  • surgical intervention

There was one unfortunate caveat to this research. The individuals with the best results were in their teens and early twenties. Scoliosis remains sadly undiagnosed for many individuals until they are much older, by which time much of the potential progress from this treatment will have been lost forever. Individuals will have to turn to more expensive forms of therapy. If you or a loved one suffers from scoliosis and doctors failed to make a prompt diagnosis, please contact an attorney to help you get the compensation you need to afford the treatment that will provide the greatest likelihood of success.
