UPPER EAST SIDE, MANHATTAN – A moped and a box truck were involved in a fatal collision in Manhattan last week, according to police.
Patch Upper East Side reported details of the incident that occurred at East 94th Street and 2nd Avenue in Yorkville early Wednesday morning.
Investigators said the operator of a gas-powered 2023 Taizhou Qianxin moped was heading in the wrong direction on East 94th Street, a one-way street going east. The moped collided with the driver’s side cab of a box truck that was traveling on 2nd Avenue at about 3:20 a.m. Both people on the moped were ejected from the vehicle. Police said the box truck driver had the right of way.
The moped driver, a 47-year-old man, was pronounced dead after being taken to New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center. His passenger, a 34-year-old man, was hospitalized in stable condition. The identities of the victims were not immediately released.
The driver of the box truck, a 70-year-old man, was not injured in the crash.
