QUEENS, NY – A wrong-way accident in Queens last week left two people dead and two others hospitalized, reports WCBS.
It happened early Thursday morning, when two vehicles collided on the Whitestone Expressway at about 2:15 a.m.
An investigation found that the driver of a Honda Pilot was traveling north in the southbound lanes of the expressway, and crashed into a Honda HR-V that was headed south near College Point Boulevard.
The driver of the HR-V was pronounced dead at the scene and was identified as 45-year-old Francisco Cureno. A man in the Pilot, 25-year-old Joseph Pulido, was also killed in the wreck.
A passenger in the Pilot, a 35-year-old woman, was transported to New York-Presbyterian Queens and was listed in critical condition. A 26-year-old man in the Pilot was in stable condition at the same hospital.
The accident shut down the southbound lanes of the Whitestone Expressway as police and emergency crews responded to the scene. Drivers encountered heavy delays through the area during the morning commute.
