Drunk Driving Accidents: Mark Your Calendar

divider

It’s become common knowledge that driving on certain holidays is dangerous. Drunk drivers are much more common on New Year’s Eve, Halloween, the day of the Super Bowl, and St. Patrick’s Day than they are on most other days. But when looking at the calendar, holidays aren’t the only thing to watch for. Each community will have other days where drunk driving is more common, and you should pay attention to those dates.

Community events to look out for and try to stay off the streets during include:

  • Major concerts, particularly music festivals, rock and roll concerts, and hip hop concerts, as drinking and drug use are prevalent at these events
  • Major sporting events, when a lot of people drive home drunk afterwards
  • Oktoberfests, pub crawls, and other beer and alcohol festivals that occur all throughout the year

Sadly, staying off the streets is no guarantee of safety. A woman and her toddler thought they were safe, but they were killed on May 3rd, 2015 when a car driven by a drunk driver plowed into their apartment. The driver was on his way home from a festival where he had reportedly been drinking very heavily.

Paying attention to the community calendar is a great way to reduce the likeliness of you or your family being hurt by a drunk driver. If there’s an event scheduled in the area that you believe might lead to drunk driving, please stay home if possible.

Drunk driving remains frightfully common. Too many people don’t stop and think before they get behind the wheel. If you or someone you love has been injured by a drunk driver, contact an attorney. Only when drunk drivers are forced to live with the consequences of their actions will people start thinking twice before driving drunk.
