Woman hit by school bus while pushing child in stroller on Long Island

OCEANSIDE, LONG ISLAND – An accident on Long Island involving a school bus last week sent a pedestrian to the hospital, according to a report by WNBC.

Police and first responders were called to the scene in the area of Long Beach Road and Davison Avenue in Oceanside on Monday afternoon.

Nassau County Police said a 45-year-old woman was crossing Long Beach Road at the intersection at about 2:30 p.m. while pushing her child in a stroller.  She was struck by a mini-school bus that was making a left turn, leaving her pinned underneath the bus.

Nassau County Emergency Services crews and Oceanside firefighters were able to extricate the woman through the use of a floor jack and high pressure air bags.  Police said she suffered leg injuries and a cut to her head.

The child in the stroller was apparently not injured but was transported to the hospital to be evaluated.

The driver of the school bus, age 71, stayed at the scene and it was not expected that charges would be filed.
