79-year-old woman dies after being struck by hit-and-run drivers in Brooklyn

CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN – The NYPD is searching for the drivers involved in an accident that killed a woman in Brooklyn last week, The Daily News reports.

The victim was identified as 79-year-old Yvonne Sandiford.  The incident happened Thursday night in the vicinity of New York Avenue and Fulton Street in the Crown Heights neighborhood.

According to investigators, Sandiford was crossing the street at about 6:30 p.m. when she was struck and dragged by a gray Nissan Rogue making a left turn at the intersection.  As she was in the roadway, Sandiford was hit again by a white Toyota Sienna.  She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both drivers were reported to have fled the scene without stopping to help.  Family members said Sandiford, a mother of 10, was a native of Barbados who had been living in New York since 1991.

The NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad is investigating the two crashes. Anyone with further information about the hit-and-run was asked to call the NYPD or Crime Stoppers.
