Man fatally struck by car while unloading groceries in Queens

GLEN OAKS, QUEENS – New York City police said a man was killed in an accident on a street in Queens on Tuesday afternoon.

According to WNBC, police and fire officials were called to the scene in the area of 73rd Avenue and 260th Street in the Glen Oaks section of the borough.

An investigation determined that a man was unloading groceries from his parked car with his family at about 4 p.m. when his vehicle was struck by an out-of-control SUV.  The collision left the man pinned between two vehicles.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.  He was identified as 67-year-old Sam Amorese.

Amorese’s 65-year-old wife, 5-year-old granddaughter and 1-year-old grandson were all sitting in his car at the time.  The boy suffered a serious leg injury, and all three were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Police said the 39-year-old driver of the SUV that hit them lost consciousness prior to the crash due to a medical episode.  The driver remained at the scene and was taken to the hospital to be evaluated.
