BRENTWOOD, LONG ISLAND – Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced that a man has pleaded guilty in connection with a crash that took place on November 5, 2022.
Tierney made the announcement in a news release following the plea of 25-year-old Kevin Rosas Daqui of Brooklyn.
Prosecutors said Rosas Daqui was speeding in a 2012 Honda Civic while going south on the Sagtikos Parkway in Brentwood at about 12:37 a.m. The Civic collided with a disabled vehicle that was in the right lane of the parkway near Crooked Hill Road. The driver of the disabled vehicle, who was trying to remove a spare tire from her trunk, was hit by the Civic and as a result both of her legs had to be amputated.
Two of Rosas Daqui’s passengers were injured and taken to South Shore University Hospital. A sample of Rosas Daqui’s blood taken after the crash showed his blood alcohol content was almost triple the legal limit.
On Monday, Rosas Daqui pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated vehicular assault, aggravated driving while intoxicated, and reckless driving.
“This defendant’s selfish and reckless decision to drink and then drive caused catastrophic injuries to multiple innocent people, one of whom will suffer for the rest of her life,” said District Attorney Tierney. “With the prevalence of ride hailing apps and taxi services, there is absolutely no excuse for anyone to drink and drive.”
Rosas Daqui is due back in court to be sentenced on September 14.
