Listeners of Latin music radio station Mega 97.9 were shocked to learn of the death of DJ Jinx Paul, who died as the result of a hit-and-run accident in Brooklyn. Police are now looking for the driver who left Jean Paul Guerrero on the street to die.
It was shortly after 4:00 Monday morning when Guerrero was attempting to cross Jamaica Avenue at Sheffield Avenue in the Highland Park section of Brooklyn. Police say a woman in her 20s or 30s driving a black Nissan Maxima was responsible for the deadly accident. The surveillance video released by the NYPD shows the car less than a mile away on Fulton Street by Eastern Parkway but does not capture a clear image of the license plate. Due to the severe trauma to Guerrero’s body, investigators believe the car was traveling at a high rate of speed and would now have front-end damage as a result of the impact. The 39-year-old DJ was taken to Brookdale University Hospital where he died.
Guerrero lived in Harlem and had been a DJ from the age of nine. He had worked in over 100 clubs throughout New York City and started at Mega 97.9 four years ago. He was currently on the air from 7 p.m. to midnight. The father of a 6-year-old son was loved by his co-workers and fans for his caring and trusting nature, down-to-earth personality, and close ties to the community. Right now there is a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.
