HEMPSTEAD, LONG ISLAND – Police said a driver was involved in multiple crashes in Hempstead, Long Island on Friday night that left two people dead and four others injured.
According to a WNBC report, the scene of the first incident was in the area of Fulton Avenue and Hilton Avenue. The driver of a 2005 Chrysler struck a 2021 Genesis occupied by four people at about 11 p.m., Nassau County Police said.
An investigation determined that the Chrysler driver fled the scene, went through a red light at Main Street and struck three additional cars. The Chrysler then went up in flames, and two people inside were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities were not immediately released.
Four people in the Genesis sustained minor injuries and were transported to an area hospital. The four victims included two children, ages six and eight.
Police are continuing to investigate the sequence of events that led to the crashes.
