Scooter rider fatally struck by car on Boyle Road in Selden

SELDEN, LONG ISLAND – Police on Long Island are investigating a collision that left one person dead and another hospitalized, according to a report by Sachem Patch.

Suffolk County Police responded to the scene of the accident that took place Tuesday evening on Boyle Road near Middle Country Road in Selden.

According to the police investigation, the driver of a 2009 Ford Escape was going south on Boyle Road just behind a man riding an electric scooter, and the two vehicles collided just north of Middle Country Road at about 5:05 p.m.

The man who had been driving the scooter was pronounced dead on the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.  He was identified by police as 53-year-old Henry Leib of Selden.

The 23-year-old person who was driving the Ford sustained injuries that were not regarded as life-threatening, and was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital.

Detectives looking into the accident asked that anyone with further information call the Sixth Squad.
