DIX HILLS, LONG ISLAND – Police on Long Island announced the arrest of a suspected drunk driver following a car accident last month that left a woman injured, according to a report by HuntingtonNOW.

The incident took place Jan. 28 on the Long Island Expressway in the vicinity of exit 51 in Dix Hills.  Suffolk County Police said 26-year-old Sargunvir Sondhi was heading east while driving a 2019 Mercedes Benz G30 shortly after 5 a.m. when he crashed into the back of a 2015 Nissan Sentra.

A woman who was a passenger in the Sentra was seriously injured and transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip.  She was identified as 63-year-old Irene Weitz of Plainview.  Her husband, 63-year-old Howard Weitz of Plainview, was driving the vehicle and was not injured in the wreck.

Sondi, a resident of Dix Hills, was charged with driving while intoxicated and was held for arraignment at First District Court.   Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks as part of the investigation, which is being conducted by detectives with the Suffolk County Police Second Squad.
