Motorcyclist, passenger killed in collision with jitney bus in Southold

SOUTHOLD, LONG ISLAND – Two people were killed and another was injured in a collision involving a bus and a motorcycle on Long Island Tuesday evening, reports the Suffolk Daily Voice.

The accident happened at the intersection of State Route 25 and Moores Lane in the village of Greenport, located in the town of Southold.

Southold Town Police said a Hampton Jitney bus was pulling out of Moores Lane just before 6 p.m. when it entered the path of a motorcycle and the vehicles collided.

The man operating the motorcycle was pronounced dead after being transported to Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital.  He was identified as 62-year-old Anthony Gallo.  A passenger on the bike died of her injuries at Stony Brook University Hospital.  The victim was 74-year-old Lorraine Haeg of Southold.

The 52-year-old driver of the bus sustained minor injuries and was treated and released from the hospital.

The Southold Town Police Department and the New York State Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
