Driver killed in head-on crash on Montauk Highway in Bay Shore

BAY SHORE, LONG ISLAND – A man was killed in a car crash in Suffolk County Friday morning, Daily Voice Suffolk reports.

According to Suffolk County Police, the wreck occurred on Montauk Highway near Gardiner Drive in Bay Shore.

An investigation found that the driver of a 2012 Honda was headed west at about 10:15 a.m. when he crossed over the center double line.  The Honda collided head-on with a 2016 BMW going eastbound, and the Honda went up in flames.

The driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene.  He was identified as 29-year-old James Lozier of Levittown.  The driver of the BMW, 33-year-old Amanpreet Singh of Bethpage, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital where he was serious but stable condition.

Two police officers who attempted to rescue Lozier from the burning car were transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment for burns and smoke inhalation.

Singh was subsequently arrested and is scheduled to be arraigned next month at First District Court in Central Islip.

Both vehicles were impounded as part of the investigation.
