Collision involving tractor-trailer on LIE kills Bay Shore man

HAUPPAUGE, NY – A multi-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer on the Long Island Expressway this morning left a Bay Shore man dead.

According to News 12, Brian Nieves, 38, was westbound on the highway near Wheeler Road at about 3:15 a.m. when his Jeep Cherokee slammed into the rear of a 2012 Peterbilt tractor-trailer.

The impact threw Nieves from his SUV, he suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead a short time later.

The tractor-trailer’s driver, 55-year-old Rafael Mercado, was unhurt.

Investigators are working to establish an official cause of the deadly crash. This blog will be updated as any additional information comes to light.
