Car goes out of control, hits 6 pedestrians in Washington Heights

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY – Six people were injured when a driver went out of control and onto a sidewalk in Manhattan last week, according to a report by WABC.

According to police, the incident involved a woman who was driving a stolen Honda Accord Wednesday evening at about 6 p.m. in the Washington Heights section.

The driver, identified as 34-year-old Deanna Cimaglia, lost control of the vehicle in the vicinity of Broadway and West 190th Street.  Police said she drove onto the sidewalk where she hit the six victims and then slammed into the R G Ortiz Funeral Home on Broadway.

The injured pedestrians included a 63-year-old woman, a 41-year-old man, a 25-year-old woman, a 4-year-old girl and a 3-year-old girl.  They were all transported to various area hospital.  Another adult sustained an injury that was not life-threatening.

Police said Cimaglia, who said she was homeless, exited the vehicle following the crash and ran away before eventually returning to the scene.

Cimaglia was arrested on several charges, including criminal possession of stolen property and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.  Authorities also said she was driving without a license.
