BRONX, NY – An accident involving a school bus in the Bronx Monday left two people critically injured, the New York Post reports.

The multi-vehicle collision occurred at West Einstein Loop North at the Hutchinson River Parkway near Co-op City in Baychester.  Investigators believe the driver of a Jeep was headed north on a service road at about 3:15 p.m., went through a red light and collided with a yellow school bus going east.  Following the initial collision, the Jeep then slammed into a Chrysler Sebring and a four-door sedan.

A 21-year-old special needs student in the bus and a passenger in the Jeep were hospitalized in critical condition.  The driver of the Jeep was extricated from the vehicle and hospitalized in stable condition.  Five other people were transported to Jacobi Medical Center with minor injuries.

The NYPD is continuing to investigate the cause of the accident.
