CANARSIE, BROOKLYN – A head-on collision in Brooklyn early Tuesday morning left two drivers dead, according to the New York Post.
The incident was reportedly caused by a motorist going in the wrong direction on the Belt Parkway in Canarsie. The NYPD said 52-year-old Winston Ramdeen was behind the wheel of a 2001 Infiniti QX4 and heading east in the parkway’s westbound lanes at about 1 a.m.
Ramdeen’s car sideswiped multiple vehicles near the exit for Flatbush Avenue South. He kept driving east and collided with a 2007 Nissan Sentra going west at the exit for Rockaway Parkway, police said.
Ramdeen and the Nissan driver were both pronounced dead after being transported to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center. The Nissan driver was a 79-year-old man whose name was not immediately released.
The NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad is trying to determine why Ramdeen was driving the wrong way on the parkway.
