NASSAU COUNTY, LONG ISLAND, NY – A driver has been sentenced for causing a deadly crash on Long Island on February 2, 2020, according to Newsday.
A sentence of 6 to 18 years in prison was handed down Wednesday for 28-year-old Nicole Pollock of Freeport. The accident occurred on the northbound side of the Meadowbrook Parkway near Exit M7. Prosecutors said Pollock was driving a Nissan Rogue at an estimated 100 miles an hour when her vehicle slammed into the back of a Kia driven by 39-year-old Lissette Quintanilla of South Hempstead. The impact sent the Kia across three lanes of traffic before it went onto a shoulder and struck a tree. Quintanilla died in the wreck and her 8-year-old son was injured.
At the time, authorities said Pollock tried to walk away from the scene but was stopped by a police officer. In June, Pollock pleaded guilty to several charges, including aggravated vehicular homicide and driving while impaired by alcohol and a drug.
Acting Nassau County District Attorney Joyce Smith released a statement that read in part, “Nicole Pollock drove her car dangerously fast while she was extremely intoxicated by alcohol and marijuana and inevitably crashed into innocent victims, destroying a family.”
