Woman crossing street in Times Square struck and killed by dump truck


MANHATTAN, NEW YORK, NY – A woman walking in Midtown Manhattan over the weekend was killed when she was struck by a dump truck, according to the New York Daily News.

Police responded to the scene of the accident Saturday afternoon in Times Square at about 3 p.m.  Investigators determined that the woman had been walking across Broadway at West 45th Street when she was hit. A witness said she was dragged by the vehicle.

The woman sustained severe leg trauma and was rushed by medics to Bellevue Hospital, where she was pronounced dead later in the evening.

According to the New York Post, the victim was identified by the NYPD as 64-year-old Tamar Rhode of Gaithersburg, Maryland.

The driver of the truck stayed at the scene following the accident. So far there have been no arrests, and no charges are expected to be filed in the case.

The crash remains under investigation by the NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad.
